The Brackish Pond Literary Collective was founded by Bermudian writers, collaborators and friends, Yesha Townsend and Kristin White. It is a space to celebrate and expand upon Bermuda’s literary tradition. The collective is named for Bermudian hero, author and abolitionist, Mary Prince, whose memoir begins, ‘I was born at Brackish Pond’.
We offer
interactive workshops about Bermudian and Caribbean history and literature;
Still Vexed is a literary home with a Bermudian focus.
Our aim is to publish new writing from exciting and charged voices in the various forms of criticism, fiction, poetry, plays, personal essays, creative non-fiction and art. Still Vexed is the anatomy of a hurricane, the spider web weaved low before it, the touch-down and closest point of approach and the last slate roof piece left on the rafters. To be the embodiment of the Shakespearean epithet, we aim to create an unending, undulating torrent that forever churns in the Bermudian cultural and literary tradition. A touchstone for the Bermudian conversation heralded by emerging and established writers, in voice, tone, and dialect. A familiar sound.
Issues are edited by Kristin and Yesha, and published 3-4 times per year.
